MediaTek has reported its WiFi 7 standard has been in the works for some time. The new standard gives a 2.4 times speed boost and an upgrade on the WiFi 6.

This WiFi standard will be able to utilize 320MHz channels, 4K Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), and Multi-User Resource Unit (MRU). Additionally, it will still work on the existing frequencies – 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz.

The chip manufacturer expects devices that support the new MediaTek standard WiFi 7 will be available in the market by 2023. However, those chips will be only based on draft specifications because the standard itself will be waiting for the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) certification that will come in 2024.
