Economic Daily News, a Taiwanese media outlet, has reported that TSMC and MediaTek plan to recruit 10,000 more employees this year. To be exact, 8000 employees will be hired by TSMC and MediaTek will hire 2000 employees.
Apart from being two tech giants, both companies are also the top 2 highest valued companies listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange making them a crucial part of Taiwan’s regional economy.
Additionally, TSMC and MediaTek are known to be close partners in the semiconductor business. Last November 2021, MediaTek officially announced its flagship SoC the Dimensity 9000 that is built on TSMC’s 4nm process. The chip was then the first to use Cortex-X2 high-performance cores and was first to run on the latest ARMv9 architecture.
TSMC
Most of us know and feel the effect of the ongoing struggle with the chip shortage. Well, TSMC is at the forefront of this battle and has announced back in 2021 that it will invest USD 100 Billion for the next 3 years to help ramp up its manufacturing capabilities that can meet the current uptick in demand.
In addition, this money will be invested in building additional infrastructure globally, improving the capacity of current plants, and incorporating new semiconductor manufacturing technology into its machines for faster production lines.
As the added boost in production happens, so is the need for more manpower. According to analysts, TSMC was projected to recruit over 10,000 more employees into the company this year but instead, it is now projected to recruit over 8000. Additional details will surely come during the next Taiwan Campus Recruitment Event that will be happening soon.
MediaTek
MediaTek already has 19,300 employees as of December 2021 compared to 17,300 in April of the same year. In the span of 8 months, the company has been reported to recruit 2000 more workers.
Moreover, recruiting workers from India (1000 employees), the USA (500 employees), and recruiting several researchers from Japan and across Europe has made MediaTek a multinational company.
Last year, the company’s sales numbers were great. partly because of the release of its Dimensity chips – Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 early last year. The company raked in NTD 493.41 billion of revenue last year and its sales have grown to reach a new peak of 53.1% year-on-year (YOY).
