Sony has just unveiled the Sony WH-1000XM5, the successor of the WH-1000XM4 wireless noise-canceling headphones. It comes with a design overhaul and other changes but also a bump in price.
The design of the Sony WH-1000XM5 has been overhauled with a more rounded connection between the earcups and the thinner headband. In addition, the headband has a step-less sliding design feature with silent joints.
The new earcups can also rotate sideways but cannot fold inwards like their predecessor. Because of that, the XM5 comes with a larger carry case.

- 8-microphone system with two QN1 audio processors
- Better noise-canceling performance over its predecessor more so in the mid and high frequencies
- 30mm drivers
- Improved high-frequency response with more natural sound quality
- Supports SBC, AAC, and LDAC Bluetooth codecs
- Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity with multipoint connection
- Google Fast Pair and Windows Swift Pair support
- Ambient noise mode
- Gesture control
- Wear detection for play/pause
- Google Assistant/Alexa support
- Rated battery life of 30 hours of audio playback with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off
- Charging via USB-C connector
The Sony WH-1000XM5 is priced at USD 400 and is now available featuring the two colorways – Black and Silver.
