Infinix has just revealed more details on the 180W Thunder Charge system after teasing it earlier this week. Unlike the previously revealed 160W Fast Charge system that has yet to debut on any device, the 180W Thunder Charge is confirmed to power a flagship later this year.
The 180W charging aims to top up a 4500mAh battery to 50% in four minutes.
Infinix shared that it will use two 8C batteries connected in series to charge with 90W of power. Because this is still a lot of power, the company assured that there will be a couple of layers of protection and efficiency improvements to keep the heat at bay.
Among these include a multi-electrode lug design that was done along with leading battery manufacturers. This is said to reduce the battery’s internal resistance by more than 50%. The two batteries draw power from three charge pumps with 99% conversion efficiency.
The 180W Thunder Charge system has 111 software and hardware security mechanisms and 20 temperature sensors. The former keeps an eye on high temperature, increased voltage, electromagnetic interference, and more. Meanwhile, the latter monitors the temperature in the USB port, charging chips, battery, and other locations. The system looks to keep the phone’s temperature below 43°C.
Additionally, the system will have a special encryption chip to verify the authenticity of the cable to ensure that it can handle the load. The cable is capped to 60W or 100W when using other cables.
We’ll get to see the 180W Thunder Charge system later this year on a flagship device.
