Netflix announced that will bring spatial audio to all devices in partnership with Sennheiser. This will allow you to enjoy surround sound with just stereo speakers.
The spatial audio will work on non-Apple devices including smartphones, tablets, and televisions. This is as long you access the stereo track and is all done within the Netflix app.
Currently, spatial audio content on the platform is made by them. When in doubt, you can search for spatial audio and choose from the selection.
To know if what you’re watching is in spatial audio, check for the 5.1 or Dolby Atmos logo on the title screen. If these logos are present, the device will play the surround sound audio track.
Most televisions will automatically play the surround sound track with no option to manually switch and instead just experience the TV’s internal audio processing.
The process is much simpler on Apple devices as Netflix just uses the built-in spatial audio in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS devices.
The spatial audio feature is now available globally for all subscription tiers.
