At Intel Innovation 2022, Samsung Display CEO JS Choi showed off a prototype PC that Intel and Samsung have been working on. This features a sliding technology, instead of the more ‘common’ folding technology of today, that turns a 13-inch tablet into a 17-inch one.

Sliding is the new foldable?
Intel has been working on new PC form factors for yours and looked at a dual-screen and foldable design but Microsoft stopped its initial plans for Windows 10X for foldable devices. The lack of software to support a new form factor like foldables and possible sliding devices as well as apps to maximize it might prove to be a bigger issue in making the new form factor a reality.
In addition to showcasing the sliding PC prototype, Intel also demonstrated its Unison software on the display. The software aims to connect Intel-powered computers to smartphones. This includes iPhones.
Because the new tech is a prototype as of writing this, we’ll just have to wait and see if it does make it out into the consumer market.
Meanwhile, in the smartphone market, we were close to seeing the first-ever sliding device from LG but it closed its mobile business unit last year.
