Apple has just released the new watchOS 9 for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models. However, the software update introduced a bug that affected Spotify streaming.
The said update has a bug that disrupts Spotify streaming forcing the company to send out emails to its customers saying: “Apple watchOS 9 introduced a bug that causes Spotify streaming on the Apple Watch to stop working. We urge Spotify Apple Watch users not to install the watchOS 9 updates until Apple has implemented a fix for the issue. Users who are already affected can instead download their content to their Apple Watch and listen offline or stream from their phones.”

Customer reports explained that once you’ve updated your Apple watch to the latest version and stream Spotify, it will immediately stop streaming within the first minute.
However, the progress bar still moves as if the song is still streaming/playing; this was reported on WiFi and cellular connections.
So for now, you can only wait for the next update/fix to come. Apple has already prepared the watchOS version 9.1 beta for developers so this may arrive within the next few weeks.
