The Xiaomi-backed automobile company China Car Custom (CCC) has just introduced its prototype electric sports car that signals its arrival in the electric vehicle (EV) market.

Xiaomi and China Car Custom

Earlier this year Xiaomi invested around USD 10 Billion over the next 10 years in electric car manufacturing but got delayed because of recent lockdowns and logistical issues caused by the pandemic.

As part of its push to manufacture EVs, CCC is one of the startups that benefited from Xiaomi’s investments in this industry.

The first EV from CCC dubbed “SC01” is a two-seater, 2-door sports car that is powered by two electric motors that dish out a combined output of 320kW or about 429hp. It can go from 0-100 in 3.9 seconds and will weigh under 1,300kg.

The SC01’s design was inspired by a sports car called Lancia Stratos 2010. Lancia being, at one time, one of the most highly acclaimed sports car manufacturers.

Both Xiaomi and China Car Custom plan to sell the SC01 for USD 42,000 (around PHP 2.5 Million) and start manufacturing by the end of next year. Orders are now being accepted.
