Nothing CEO and founder Carl Pei has just announced on Twitter that the Nothing ear (1) will get a price increase due to “an increase in costs” starting October 26.
The Nothing ear (1) was the company’s first product and was unveiled in July 2021. It was introduced at a pretty decent price of USD 99. According to Pei, starting October 26, the ear (1) will be offered for USD 149 (around PHP 8,800).
He also clarified in a follow-up tweet that the number of engineers working on the company’s products has increased from three to 185 since the ear (1) was in development. This is among the reasons for the price increase. The ear (1) has also received 15 firmware and the company sold about 600,000 units as well.
Nothing ear (1) Price Increase Speculations
It is speculated that another reason for the price hike is the arrival of the Nothing Ear (stick) with its more compact charging case. The upcoming TWS earbuds were previously revealed visually during London Fashion Week.
The new TWS earbuds are confirmed to be officially introduced on October 26 which explains the speculation. Additionally, it was spotted on Amazon with a EUR 99 price tag, which is the current price of the ear (1).
We’re not sure how the price hike will affect the local price of the Nothing ear (1) though, which is currently priced at PHP 5,990.
