It seems like the first Samsung S23 Geekbench results have surfaced showcasing the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 tests as well.

The device with serial number SM-S911U may be the US version of the Samsung S23 and the “Kalama” moniker may likely be the new Qualcomm chip under its hood.

As seen in the image above, You can spot 1x Makalu-Elp prime core paired with 2x Makalu and 2x Matterhorn mid cores, and 3x Klein-R1. However, there is still no clear indication as to what the main difference is between the Makalu and Matterhorn.

The only information that was reported was that the Makalu may be pertaining to the improved version of the Cortex-A715 while the Matterhorn is the original A710(the A715 being 20% more efficient and 5% faster than the A710)

Furthermore, the Makalu-Elp is said to be based on the Cortex-X3(25% faster than the X2 in ARM’s measurements), and Klein is said to be based on the A510 core.

Just keep in mind that the first wave of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones is still a few months away. For example, the S23 is still 3 to 4 months away so it is important that we take that into account when reading this benchmark report.

In addition, other details that were gathered from this report include the base S23 model having 8GB RAM and may run on Android 13 out of the box.

Samsung ARM chips

The GPU is said to be the Adreno 740 (Adreno 730 is the GPU used in the Gen 1 chips).

Information regarding the EU version of the S23 has not yet been discovered and it also seems that the 2023 models may not be exclusively equipped with Qualcomm chips as Exynoss may still be in line.
