Qualcomm has been reported that it is working on a new 7-series chip – Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 with serial number SM7475 but with no clear indication as to what position it will take in the Snapdragon line of SoCs.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 rumors
According to the rumors, this upcoming processor will sport a tri-cluster design that includes 1x Prime, 3x Gold, and 4x Silver cores.
Tipster Roland Quandt gave out some details about the frequencies of these clusters. The Prime core will run at around 2.4GHz, the Gold cores will go up to roughly the same frequency while the Silver cores will go up to 1.8GHz.
However, there have been no details of the actual chipset yet and if this is confirmed to be a Gen 2 SoC, it will be using the new core designs which include the Cortex-A715 for the Prime and Gold cores and the improved A510 for the Silver ones.
If we assume that these reports are about the new cores, we can expect a little improvement performance-wise but a fairly significant bump in efficiency – the A715 is 5% faster and 20% more efficient than its predecessor.
On the other hand, the A510 core has been improved also adding 5% more efficiency.
As a final note, the Snapdragon Summit will happen a month from now and will bring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Meanwhile, The 7-series chips will probably be launched separately. So for now we can only wait for the manufacturer’s update.
