Yoga Slim 7i Carbon: Tough But Classy

I have been very fascinated with the new wave of Yoga laptops by Lenovo. Apart from the innovations tucked in each device, the line-up is known for its noteworthy design and impressive price-to-performance ratio.

Back in IFA 2022, Lenovo announced the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon, Yoga Slim 7i Pro X, and Yoga 9i equipped with the latest 12th Gen Intel® Core™ Core series processors. The Yoga Slim 7i Carbon and Yoga 9i are refreshed products with new features while the Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is a new device and is the highlight of the Yoga Gen 7 line.

Lenovo sent over the refreshed Yoga Slim 7i Carbon for us to take a look at, and boy, was I really surprised with how they improved this product. You will remember that I unboxed and reviewed a Yoga Slim 7i Carbon back in December 2020, and it was easy for me to tell how the new Yoga Slim 7i Carbon greatly improved in both design and performance.

In this article, I am going to go through its best features and traits; and tell you my thoughts on why this is worthy of your consideration as a laptop for both business and productivity. Watch out for the video for a more in depth look into the results of the tests I ran on my full review.

Designed to be tough without losing touch with being classy

One of the many things that I love about the new Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is its overall simple yet functional design. Lenovo employed an all-new Comfort Edge design with perfectly fitted edge-to-edge keyboard.

The Comfort Edge design makes it easy to carry it around. Putting it inside my TomToc bag is easy; and since it’s made of aero-grade strength carbon fiber, it does not actually add significant weight to my load. Even the charger is super compact, which makes it an “easy-win” for me when it comes to portability and travel comfort.

The effect on productivity of the new keyboard is tremendously comfortable too thanks to its larger keycaps. Lenovo also assured that the keyboard deck (along with its other vital parts) will not have any issues on corrosion because it is wrapped with precision die-casted magnesium.

Perhaps its most important feature is what makes it a tough laptop. According to Lenovo, the new Yoga Slim 7i Carbon passed 9 military-grade tests for durability and meets MIL-STD 810H standards. MIL-STD-810H testing determines a product’s ability to survive harsh environmental conditions.

Another thing that is noteworthy is its resistance to fingerprints and stains. This is made possible through a unique process involving 3-layer, 8 hours of high-heat baking, and 6 to 9 hours of painting process over its carbon black base.

Productivity Requires Power, and Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is made to deliver

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon has an Intel® Evo™-certified 12th Gen Intel® hybrid processor. P-Core and E-Core are responsible for gaming and creative apps, respectively. P-Core is “performance core” and E-Core is “efficient core”; and with this arrangement, the laptop dynamically adjusts its settings to the work at hand, controlling performance, thermals, and power consumption.

This is the best option for a tiny, light laptop that packs a punch and offers a long battery life without sacrificing performance.

Despite its ability to deliver the power I need, a single full charge of the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon can last up to 13.5 hours. In my case, I managed to use it for almost 10 hours of watching The Orville while writing articles, checking emails, and managing our social media channels. It’s an impressive feat for a laptop of such size and less than a kilogram weight, but definitely expected because of its 50Whr battery. As an added bonus, the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon supports Rapid Charge Express, which gives a 15-minute charge up to 3 hours-worth of local video playback.

Binge-watch with Style and Performance

As a laptop, the new Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is packed with the right tools to keep you entertained. Built with Lenovo Puresight display, it establishes a new level for premium features, providing a visual experience that is crisper, smoother, and more realistic while still being Eyesafe-certified.

It features an expanded color palette that is more accurate thanks to the hardware calibration, hues that fill 100 percent of the sRGB color space, and 100 percent of the color volume with 8-bit color. Additionally, it has TÜV Hardware Low Blue Light certification, which is designed to reduce eye strain.

The display has a 90Hz refresh rate for buttery smooth animations and transitions with little pointer trailing and ghosting in FPS games. Adaptive refresh rate technology allows fluent animations when gaming while reducing power consumption at a reduced refresh rate when idle. I admit, while this laptop is not exactly made for playing AAA titles, its core components and display are capable enough to meet certain requirements to play games.

Yoga Slim 7i Carbon’s display is also Dolby Vision HDR certified. It can present brilliant, vibrant colors, broader color contrast, and scene-by-scene color and brightness optimization to bring users closer to visual realism.

Its Harman speakers are at the top of its class too, thanks to its Dolby Atmos certification. The speakers offer three-dimensional sound to immerse you in the action. It analyzes playing content and determines the ideal audio profile for immersive audio with improved clarity and deeper bass.

Smart Laptop is the way of the future

One of the things that make this laptop stand out in the competition is how they implemented AI to complement its software and hardware features. All thanks to Lenovo AI Engine+ with Ai Core Chip, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is able to do the following:

  • Allows the laptop to instantly boot upon lifting the display lid, or Flip-to-boot
  • Optimizes it to shift its power plan at will depending on the needed or required thermal and power design through Lenovo Smart Power by simply pressing Fn+Q.
  • Change the refresh rate on the fly, thanks to Lenovo Adaptive refresh rate 2.0 by pressing Fn+R. As refresh rate affects performance and battery life, you have the option to cycle it among 30-60Hz, 90Hz, or Auto Mode.
  • Maximize the laptop’s time-of-flight sensor by implementing more security and ease-of-use features.
  • Enhance your appearance, add background blur, adjust your video frame, and add face filters. Surprisingly, there is even an application that “corrects” the lens of your eyes while having a video call.

These smart features are barely scratching the surface. One thing is for certain: Lenovo made sure that every AI-specific feature on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is to make things comfortable, secured, and functional for its users, myself included.

Lenovo Got You Covered

One of the most important benefits of getting a Lenovo laptop is its 3-year Premium Care with Accident Damage Protection (or ADP). Think of it like insurance for your laptop, and you don’t need to actually pay anything extra for this. With this included feature, you get the following benefits:

  • On-site support warranty, which means you don’t need to line-up at the service center. It’s like having your personal customer support concierge. Simply call the hotline, and Lenovo’s technician will go to you and repair your laptop.
  • With the 3-year ADP, you’ll get in-warranty repair coverage against user-induced damages due to accidents. This includes accidental drops, spills, cracks, dents, to name a few. This specific benefit is also eligible for on-site service.
