Morris Chang, TSMC founder, confirmed that the company has invested USD 12 Billion in an upcoming plant in Phoenix, Arizona and it will focus on manufacturing 3nm chips.
TSMC’s New Fab and Chip Market Control
The chip manufacturer will hold its “tool in” ceremony for the new fab this coming December 6, 2022.
Currently, the company has already been reported to be the one supplying 3nm chips based on the N3 process for the next-gen Apple iPhone chipsets and Apple silicone SoCs for iPads and Macs and will soon add more clients.
Based on some reports, the company managed to control 70% of the chipset trade in Q1 2022. This is because of the efforts by the Taiwan-based company to expand in the US with factories located at Camas, Washington, and Phoenix, Arizona alongside design centers in Austin, Texas, and San Jose, California.
