Galaxy Z Fold 4, in a nutshell
Samsung has always been the gold standard for a brand that sells foldable smartphones. I am certain that almost every other brand in the market would take Samsung as the proper benchmark. Needless to say, there are products that are more interesting and powerful than Samsung’s latest, but there is no question that the former is still bought and preferred by many.
There are plenty of reasons why the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is chosen by more people – better display, folding mechanism, camera and after-sales service, to name a few. I will be talking about these features, but I would like to give you – the reader – a heads up: this phone is not the best, but it certainly possesses the right features to make it the best foldable smartphone launched this year.

I’ve got to be honest here: Having been using an iPhone 14 Pro Max and Galaxy S22 Ultra for quite some time now, I cannot help but miss the times when the Galaxy Z Fold 4 review unit was still with me. It was my companion when I went to the US back in September, but I needed to return it at the request of Samsung and their PR agency.
Here are my reasons:
Iconic and Functional Design
The design, while it wasn’t something that is drastically different from the Galaxy Z Fold 3, its foldable design feature still sets itself apart from the competition. Turning it from a regular vertical form factor to a small tablet has made it a very likable product for me. I am a little biased here because I owned a Z Fold 2 before but eventually sold it to my friend who wanted to try a foldable device. I didn’t have to bring a separate tablet just to watch my favorite shows or videos, because the Galaxy Z Fold 4 can literally do that job very well.
There is also the aspect of the being among the second foldable device of Samsung to have IP68 rating. There is now little to no fear of rendering this phone useless when soaked in water.
Flexible Display
Display sizes are somewhat the same on the new Fold, but the aspect ratios are bigger: 21.6:18 for the folding screen and 23.1:9 for the outer panel; and the refresh rate is 120hz on both inner and outer displays.
They made its under-display camera less visible this time around, making it more immersive than the previous generation. It was a little bit of a deal especially for the Fold3 users, and this improvement on Fold4 is amazing.
I wholeheartedly miss this setup as well because I can get to enjoy my movies and games whether you’re using folded or unfolded mode.
A total banger for gamers!
The phone can also be a mobile gamer’s dream thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset installed on the phone. This is, officially, the second wave of devices with this chipset to enter the Philippine market, following the ROG Phone 6.
Great Camera
You get a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide, and another 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom. You get two extra front facing cameras: a 10 MP on the inner screen, and a 4MP on the inner front screen. With all these cameras, Samsung believes that you can take amazing photos as well as nightography and stable videos at night and day.
I love Samsung’s ways of presenting color and dynamic range on the Z Fold 4 on its outer and inner displays. Check out the photos that I took using this smartphone.
Should I consider switching back to foldable phones again next year?
Whether Apple is keen in launching a foldable iPhone this 2023 or not, Samsung has left me looking forward for more on what they have in the future. When I get the chance and budget, I would not hesitate to buy a Galaxy Z Fold 4 to get these longing and need to own a foldable quenched.
