According to Gizmodo, GM (General Motors) has applied for a patent for self-cleaning touchscreen technology, which periodically activates to remove all of those bothersome fingerprints.
GM’s Self-cleaning touchscreen
The displays will incorporate a violet pixel and photocatalyst screen layer, which, when activated, can remove those flaws, as stated in the patent.
The aim seems to be to turn on the self-cleaning technology every night so that your display will be as smooth as butter when you get out of your car the next morning.
But, it sounds like users would be able to manually activate it as necessary as well, in case you happen to find the screen to be particularly dirty.
So for now, since it is still in the patent stages, there is still no way to know when we can expect this new technology from GM to arrive.
Meanwhile, you can check out our other articles regarding future or upcoming displays here.
