Remember our previous report on the change from Netflix regarding password sharing? Well, according to the company, this was an accident. This was only applicable to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru as it was being trialed and the article for other countries has since been updated.
“For a brief time yesterday, a help center article containing information that is only applicable to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru went live in other countries. We have since updated it.” the company said.
Netflix Account Sharing Trial
Last year, Netflix started paid sharing in the aforementioned three countries. The company is testing out having the account owner pay for an extra person located outside the owner’s home. The fee for the extra person is USD 2.99 (PHP 162.50), at least in Costa Rica.
To be a part of the owner’s home, the trial requires the device to be connected to the WiFi in the account owner’s home and watch something on the streaming service at least once a month.
Netflix has yet to reveal if it will use the same system for the rest of the world though but it’s definitely a peek into what could be used to lessen account sharing. It is expected that the company will roll out paid sharing in other countries within the first quarter of this year.
