Reports have been circling around saying that Samsung has been having some problems with its legacy nodes due to an alleged shortage of talent.
Samsung 3nm and Legacy nodes
The reports have been saying that the Korean tech giant has been having problems with retaining specialists and workers from its legacy nodes and 3nm nodes while the pressure to bolster these production lines is increasing.
However, it is not the only chip-maker to face this problem. Due to a higher demand for modern chipsets, companies like TSMC are also facing such a problem.
South Korea needs around 6,000 people with master’s and doctoral degrees in semiconductor engineering to keep up with this growing demand. Additionally, American companies are facing a shortage of 27,000 people in the next 10 years, while in China the shortage is expected to be 300,000 people by 2025.
As a response to these rumors and/or allegations, the company has recently released a statement regarding this alleged shortage of talent and workers by saying, “A recent report that Samsung is experiencing legacy node issues due to talent shortage for its foundry operations is groundless and not true. In addition to our industry-leading 3nm GAA process technology, legacy nodes are also an integral part of our foundry business and we will continue to cater to the various needs of our customers.”
This statement came from Samsung Electronics’s Device and Solutions Division confirming that the Korean company is set to continue providing all the requests from its partners regarding the legacy nodes.
