The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (S8G2) has been out for quite a while now and it still has not beaten any of Apple’s offerings. The next iteration – Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (S8G3) may be the answer to this challenge.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
The S8G3 features the next-gen ARM Cortex-X4 core with an alleged Geekbench score beating Apple’s A16 Bionic chip (powering the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max).
According to a report from Meeco, the S8G3’s single core scored 1,930 while the multi-core test scored 6,236.
This was compared to its predecessor, the S8G2, scoring 1,491 in the single-core test, and 5,164 in the multi-core test showing a 29% increase in single-core performance with a 20% boost in the multi-core performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is also rumored to feature a somewhat unique 1+5+2 core configuration which cuts another efficiency core from its predecessor’s 1+4+3 setting.
Other features of the S8G3 include:
- 20% more power-efficient than the S8G2
- Manufactured on TSMC’s N4P process node
For now, we should take this information with a grain of salt as these are not similar to real-world benchmarks as these results just came from engineering samples.
