Google has just unveiled quite a lot at the Google I/O 2023 Keynote. It introduced its first foldable, tablet, and the latest A-series device. Additionally, it highlighted its advancements in AI specifically in Android, apps like Gmail and Map, and Bard.
In this article we’ll go over some of the implementation of generative AI technology in Android, the company’s smartphone OS.
AI-powered Android Features
Generative AI will be coming to the Messages in the form of the Magic Compose feature. The generative AI will offer suggested responses based on the context of your messages as well as transform them to be written in different styles. Among the styles that Google mentioned a more concise or professional style or even one that can make you a bit more Shakespearean.
The Magic Compose feature for Messages will be rolled out in beta this summer.
In addition, the company is giving more customization options in Android’s Material You. Among these include being able to customize your lock screen with new shortcuts and uniquely crafted clocks.
Android will also be giving you new ways to express yourself through your wallpapers with Emoji wallpaper, Cinematic wallpaper, and Generative AI wallpaper.
Emoji Wallpaper allows you to create a wallpaper based on your favorite emojis and set them in different patterns and colors.
Meanwhile, Cinematic Wallpaper uses an on-device machine learning network to turn your photos into 3D images.
Lastly, Generative AI Wallpaper uses suggested prompts to create your ultimate creative vision. It uses Google’s text-to-image diffusion model to give you a selection of unique wallpapers based on the prompts.
Emoji and Cinematic wallpaper will be available on Pixel devices first and will arrive next month. Generative AI wallpaper, on the other hand, will arrive in Fall 2023.
