Google has officially introduced the Google Pixel Fold after many months of leaks, rumors, and teasers during the Google I/O 2023 Keynote. The company’s first foldable device is powered by the Google Tensor G2 and brings familiar Pixel features while also introducing unique Fold features.
The company also introduced the Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, new AI features to its apps like Gmail and Search, and updates to its generative AI, Bard.
Google Pixel Fold
The Google Pixel Fold features a 7.6-inch inner OLED panel with a 2208x1840p resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, on the outside is a 5.8-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Both panels have front cameras with an 8MP sensor on the bezel on the inside and a 9.5MP lens in a punch hole on the outside.
Around the back, it has a triple rear camera with a 48MP main, a 10.8MP ultrawide, and a 10.8MP telephoto. The company showcased some nifty features with the camera including switching the viewfinder to the outer panel while you use the rear cameras for high-quality selfies. We saw this in the recent Google x NBA ad that was ‘leaked’.
Google maximized the foldable device by introducing a tabletop mode that allows you to sit back and relax while watching videos on YouTube or take selfies with the inner front camera.
Additionally, you can multitask by unfolding the Pixel Fold and using the left half for one thing and the right half for another. The company also teased a Dual Screen interpreter mode that will use the outer and inner panels to aid in live conversations. This feature will come with Android 14 later this year.
As it is a Pixel device, it will still include features like Call Assist and has Pixel Camera highlights like Real Tone, Night Sight, and pro-level modes from the Pixel 7 Pro.
