Meta, according to a report by Lia Heberman from The Verge, is developing a platform under the Instagram brand that may compete with Twitter.
Meta’s Twitter Competitor?
This new platform does not have an official name yet but is known within the company as ”P92” aka “Barcelona”.
The app’s user interface bears resemblance to Instagram’s, although instead of displaying a stream of photos and videos, it features a timeline of “text-based” posts.
Furthermore, you have the option to include photos, videos, and links in your posts, similar to Twitter. Additionally, other users can engage by replying to posts and creating threads within the platform.
For current IG users, you don’t have to worry about your starting over because you can carry over your followers easily to this new platform. It will also be compatible with other social media platforms.
The company emphasized that “users on these other apps will be able to search for, follow and interact with your profile and content if you’re public.”
Also, Meta’s large following will push it closer to being a Twitter competitor compared to other platforms. So for now, let us wait for the official unveiling of this new platform to see if it can really be competitive.
