OPPO has just confirmed that it will stop developing its own chipset. The company developed the MariSilicon X ISP and MariSilicon Y audio chip last year alongside other in-house developed chipsets that were introduced in 2019.

OPPO’s Shanghai-based chip subsidiary Zeku will cease operations due to “uncertainty in the global economy and the smartphone industry”. This chip manufacturer was the one responsible for the aforementioned chips that were developed in-house.

Moreover, the phone manufacturer was said to have invested up to USD 1.4 billion in its in-house chip development business.

How would the Chinese company move forward after this? Will they still develop their own chips via other fabs? or will it completely stop? We can only wait for further announcements from the manufacturer.
