As per Reuters, Samsung has pushed through with the deal involving LG for the supply of high-end white OLED TV panels in sizes of 77 and 83 inches.
Samsung and LG Display’s Deal
This collaboration includes 10 million OLED panels that will be supplied, albeit staggered, in the following years. The reports say that LG will first supply 2 million OLED panels in 2024 then 3 million in 2025, and then 5 million in 2026.
For the uninitiated, this seems to be the first time that Samsung bought OLED panels from its South Korean rival after halting its own OLED TV manufacturing.
Moreover, the timing of this deal is a boon for LG Display, as it comes after the company reported a downward trend in sales and “sluggish demand” for TVs and OLED TV panels in its recent quarterly earnings.
This also helps Samsung a lot as it too has suffered from poor sales and an unstable market. Will this deal prove to match their Chinese counterpart? For now, we can only wait for the results in the coming years.
