Smart Communications, PLDT’s wireless affiliate, stated that it will not be using its emergency broadcast system to push the registration of SIM cards.
Smart Communications – SIM Card Registration
Al Panlilo, PLDT CEO, said that instead of using these emergency channels they will instead opt for using creative ads for both Smart and TNT services.
Currently, PLDT’s wireless affiliate has registered 44.6 million SIMs out of 66.3 million subscribers, which is 67% of its total subscribers, based on the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) report, and also leads the registration with 44,660,289 out of 66,304,761 of its subscribers.
Finally, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy says they aim to register over 100 million “legitimate” users out of a total of 168,016,400, with the remaining being “active” SIMs used for scams.
