According to a study conducted by Smart in partnership with market research firm NielsenIQ, Smart is the top mobile group in the Philippines based on the number of subscribers, while TNT is the country’s premier mobile brand. The study gathered data from 1,175 Filipinos from various regions across the country aged 18 to 60 who own and use a mobile SIM. The survey ran from Jan 5 to April 3, 2023, and encompassed both single and multiple SIM users of different mobile brands.
The study revealed a significant 46% of respondents use and own a TNT mobile SIM, which is considerably higher compared to the competition. In addition, 14% of respondents reported using Smart Prepaid, with only 1% opting for Sun Prepaid.
Smart is the leading mobile group with most number of claimed subscribers
Based on the study in question, Smart reigns supreme in the Philippines’ mobile industry with the highest number of subscribers, with 59% of respondents who claimed to use their brands such as TNT, Smart Prepaid, and Sun Prepaid.
This percentage greatly surpasses their competitors. In terms of regional usage, TNT takes the lead as the most popular mobile brand in all areas surveyed except Mindanao. TNT has the most users in Visayas with 60% of surveyed respondents claiming ownership of a TNT mobile SIM. 46% of respondents in Balance Luzon and 39% in the Mega Manila area (which includes the Metro Manila Area, Rizal, and Palawan) also claim to use TNT SIM.
On the other hand, TM leads in Mindanao with 54% of claimed SIM users, followed closely by TNT with 41% of claimed SIM users. The survey included a sample size of 329 respondents in Mega Manila, 438 in Balance Luzon, 194 in Visayas, and 214 in Mindanao.
Philippines’ Fastest and Best Mobile Network, according to Ookla
Smart has recently earned the recognition of being the swiftest mobile network in the country for Q1 of 2023, thanks to TNT’s support. This achievement was acknowledged in a separate report by Ookla, a global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence. Smart has also been proclaimed as the Best Mobile Network for Q1-Q2 2022 and Q3-Q4 2022 by the same entity.
What made this acknowledgement even more rare was that Smart triumphed in both the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage categories during the same reporting periods – an unprecedented feat for a Philippine-based mobile operator.
