Financial Times recently reported that German car manufacturer Volkswagen met with Huawei to use its electric vehicle (EV) car software in China. However, Volkswagen CFO Arno Antiltz recently denied the report.
Volkswagen and Huawei Reported Talks
According to the original report, the two companies have met multiple times to get a better understanding of the Chinese company’s technology for cars.
This was believed to be Volkswagen’s move to gain a larger share of the EV market in China. Currently, BYD and Tesla are dominating the EV market in China.
The rumors of a partnership between Volkswagen and Huawei started early last year when it was reported that the German company was interested in acquiring the Chinese tech company’s autonomous driving division.
However, the report was refuted by both Volkswagen’s CFO and a Volkswagen China spokesperson. The spokesperson simply responded to the report by saying, “There are no such conversations.”
