According to a report from Mydrivers, the Huawei Consumer Business Group Chief Yu Chengdong has denied reports being circulated in China that Qualcomm has received US approval to supply 5G chipsets for Huawei smartphones, clarifying the current state of Qualcomm and Huawei’s supply chain.

He claimed that it was inaccurate to claim that Qualcomm would be providing 5G chipsets.

The reports in question claimed that the US has loosened its strictness on the Chinese brand for chip export, allowing Qualcomm to ship a 5G Snapdragon chip to the smartphone maker.

It was also speculated that the US may not pull the ban on the Chinese phone manufacturer inside the country. However, if the report was true, it would’ve helped Huawei launch 5G smartphones while also boosting Qualcomm’s business.

Prior to the news being circulated in China, there was a report back in January that hinted that the US is reviewing the exports to the Chinese phone manufacturer. Unexpected information was presented, such as new restrictions on the Qualcomm 4G chipset but it was said that US export leaders were still debating what to do at the time.

It’s interesting to note that these reports are being rejected every time one pops up online. As a result, we must hold off until an official announcement is shared by the company. So maybe the Chinese manufacturer won’t be using 5G anytime soon.
