The Philippine Gaming and Amusement Corporation (PAGCOR) has been under immense scrutiny these past few days, as concerns and questions have been raised about its new logo.
PAGCOR on Alleged Plagiarism
One issue that surfaced was the logo was allegedly plagiarized from another website. the government body has issued a statement denying the claim. It also said that “the website is lacking showing of credibility and in fact, bears resemblance to a phishing site.”
“The agency urges everyone to be vigilant and to obtain information from credible sources to combat the spread of false narratives and protect themselves from potential scams.”
“PAGCOR remains dedicated to responsible gaming, regulation of the Philippine gaming industry, and nation-building. The agency appreciates the public’s support and maintains its commitment to excellence.”
In addition, chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco shared that the new logo “incorporates the element of fire associated with energy, inspiration, passion, and transformation.”
“It symbolizes the flame that ignites change and drives progress. The logo likewise reflects a beacon that symbolizes guidance, leadership, and direction. It represents a guiding light that helps people find their way,” Tengco added.
“All these taken together, our new logo reflects Pagcor’s long-standing commitment of being a guiding force that illuminates the way forward, drives transformation and development, and brings inspiration and motivation to the lives it touches,” he continued.
The logo being scrutinized is said to cost PHP 3 million in taxpayer money and on Wednesday afternoon, members of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives called for an investigation into the “questionable” rebranding that Pagcor outsourced.
The allegations are now being processed by lawmakers. Questions like “Why change the PAGCOR logo?” and “Why did PAGCOR prioritize changing its logo over addressing more pressing issues?” are being raised by the same lawmakers and the public.
In the meantime, we can only wait for what the lawmakers involved uncover and how this issue will be resolved in the days to come.
