Sony has officially unveiled the Sony WF-1000XM5, its next-generation true-wireless earbuds. The earbuds were introduced in the global market and are said to be the company’s biggest step forward in noise cancelling.
Before we get to it, this is the TWS earbuds XM5, not to be confused with the over-the-ear WH-1000XM5 that was introduced last year.
Sony WF-1000XM5
As mentioned by previous leaks, the Sony WF-1000XM5 is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than its predecessor along with a more sleek design.
The earbuds themselves are equipped with a new Integrated Processor V2 which is said to “unlock the potential of the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e”. These are in charge of controlling the microphones in the earbuds for unprecedented noise-cancelling quality.
For audio quality, they also have the new Dynamic Driver X which improves the reproduction of lower frequencies from the last generation. It also enables a wide frequency reproduction and clear vocals. Meanwhile, the unique polyurethane foam Noise Isolation Earbud Tips help reduce noise in the high-frequency range.
The buds use “an AI-based noise reduction algorithm based on Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing and bone conduction sensor” to offer its best-ever call quality.
As far as battery life goes, the Sony WF-1000XM5 is said to offer up to 8 hours of playback and a total of up to 24 hours of playback with the charging case. The charging case supports Qi wireless charging. Meanwhile, the earbuds have an IPX4 splash-resistant rating.
The XM5 also features:
- Audio notifications
- Linking to Spotify, Endel, and Apple Music
- Adapative Sound Control
- Speak-to-chat
- dual Bluetooth connection
