According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, Samsung and Apple continue to lead global smartphone sales in Q3 2023. This is despite a decline in global smartphone sales of 8% Year-on-Year (YoY).
Counterpoint Research – Samsung, Apple, and the Global Smartphone Market Sales
Samsung topped the research for Q3 2023 with 20% of the global total sales in Q3 of this year. However, this is a 13% drop in YoY in the same period for the company. Counterpoint mentioned that the Galaxy A-series devices remained market leaders in the midrange space. Additionally, the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is said to be outselling its counterpart by nearly twice as much.
Apple, on the other hand, took 16% of the market share despite the limited availability of the iPhone 15 series.
Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo round out the top five smartphone companies in Q3 2023 with 12%, 10%, and 8% market share, respectively. The three brands strengthened their positions in markets like China and India.
Despite not being in the top 5, HONOR, Huawei, and Transsion Group were among the brands to record YoY growth this year. The growth of HONOR is thanks to a strong overseas performance, while Huawei is driven by the launch of the Mate 60 series in China. Lastly, the Transsion Group comprised of TECNO Mobile, Infinix, and itel continued to expand and benefited from the recovery of the Middle East and Africa (MEA) market.
Counterpoint is expecting the smartphone market to decline for the full year of 2023.
