Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon X Elite at the recently held Snapdragon Summit 2023. This is the company’s first custom Arm64 CPU for all Windows on Arm devices and the first member of the new Snapdragon X series.

The chipset was introduced alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm S7 Gen 1 series sound chips, and Snapdragon Seamless.

The Snapdragon X Elite is the fifth flagship processor from Qualcomm and uses its custom Oryon cores rather than the previous Arm-based Kryo core.

There are 12 custom Oryon cores on board and these are all running at 3.8GHz with two that can be boosted to 4.3GHz.

The X Elite features 43MB total caches, 8 channels of LPDDR5x RAM, and 136GB/s of memory bandwidth. It also features the Snapdragon X65 5G modem.

The new chip also supports PCIe Gen 4 SSDs, the first from Qualcomm to support USB4, and supports DisplayPort 1.4. The last of which will allow devices running on the X Elite to support up to three 4K UHD displays up to 60Hz or two 5K displays.

Moreover, it has an Adreno GPU and a Hexagon DSP. The GPU offers up to 4.6 TFLOPS onboard with support for DirectX 12.2, OpenCL 3.0, and Vulkan 1.3. The Hexagon DSP, on the other hand, promises 45TOPS INT4 support, a 2.5x faster Tensor accelerator, and 2x more shared memory.

Qualcomm has revealed that we can expect to see Snapdragon X Elite-powered devices from Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell, HP, and more in mid-2024.
