Qualcomm has just introduced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, the latest chipset in its midrange 7-series. The new chipset offers a 15% faster CPU and 50% improved GPU compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
Yup, it’s a successor to the Gen 1 chipset and not the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. And just to remind you, this comes after the launch of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 last month.

What’s new with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3?
The third-generation chipset is built on the TSMC 4nm process and offers a 1+3+4 CPU architecture. It features a Kryo prime core that is clocked at up to 2.63GHz. This is joined by three performance cores running at up to 2.4GHz and four efficiency cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz.
It also features a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU that is said to deliver 60% faster AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
The new midrange Snapdragon chip supports up to 4K displays at 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ panels at 168Hz. The GPU allows the chip to support OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.
Meanwhile, as far as the camera goes, the Spectra ISP allows devices to use up to 200MP main cameras and record 4K HDR video at 60Hz.
The chipset features a Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System which supports mmWave and sub-6GHz bands and offers up to 5Gbps download speeds. Moreover, the chipset supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
When can we expect a device with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3?
According to the company, HONOR and vivo are expected to be among the first to introduce devices that are powered by the third-generation 7-series chipset. Devices were confirmed to arrive later this month.
