realme officially announced at its 2024 Las Vegas media event that the upcoming realme 12 Pro Series will feature a flagship periscope telephoto lens. Attendees got a first look at the phones, as realme showcased the advanced periscope technology and luxury watch-inspired design.
Aligning with realme’s recent rebranding efforts and new slogan “Make It Real,” the 12 Pro Series positions realme as a tech brand tuned into young users, with the phones being marketed as the future of next-generation imaging.
Research shows growing demand among young users for 3x or greater telephoto zoom. To enable high zoom in slim devices, periscope telephoto is the only viable option. While typically reserved for pricey flagships, realme aims to make this exclusive tech accessible to more users.
realme 12 Pro Series: Next-gen Telephoto and Sensor
realme 12 Pro Series adopts the same periscope approach as the GT5 Pro. Combining leading sensor size, platform, and algorithms, it promises best-in-class telephoto performance.
The phones tout features like prism tilt OIS, advanced coatings, and wave pattern lens shading for improved night clarity and stability. The series also leads competitors with up to 120x digital zoom and a 71mm portrait focal length for natural bokeh.
The Next-gen Lossless Zoom: Flagship Full-Focal-Length Lossless Zoom Imaging Capability
Sensor-wise, the 12 Pro Series boasts the largest periscope telephoto sensor in its class, matching top flagships with the 1/2” OV64B. Compared to the iPhone 15 Pro, it has over twice the size for drastically better light capture.
The phones also pack a 24mm 1/1.56” main sensor with OIS for stable night photos and video. Together with the periscope and ultrawide cameras, lossless full-focal-length zoom from 0.6x to 5x is achieved.
The Next-gen Algorithm: Exclusive Customization of The MasterShot Algorithm
Optimized imaging comes from collaboration with Qualcomm on the flagship MasterShot algorithm, offering industry-leading computational photography. Elements like the LightFusion and NightEye engines enhance clarity, while easy movie portrait filters let users capture striking shots.
Beyond imaging, realme has partnered with luxury watch designer Ollivier Savéo for high-end aesthetic touches. Inspired by classic timepieces, refined details like the precision-cut Golden Fluted Bezel and textured Polished Sunburst Dial elevate the look and feel of luxury. Materials like premium vegan leather and 3D metal bracelet straps complete the sophisticated watch design.
