ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) officially launched the ROG Phone 8 series comprised of the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro at CES 2024. The company’s next-generation gaming phones come with a new slimmer and lighter design with some callbacks to their predecessors like the ROG Phone 7 series which includes the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate.
ROG Phone 8 Series
The duo are built around 6.78-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED panels with a 165Hz refresh and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. On the front, the devices have a 32MP GRBW front sensor.
The rear panel has a more understated design than its predecessors but still has a diagonal line that divides the panel from the top and bottom. Phone 8 has a customizable Aura RGB lighting logo, while its Pro sibling has a customizable AniME VIsion mini-LED equipped with 341 LEDs.
Moreover, the camera module now hugs the upper left corner of the device compared to the previous horizontal design. This module has a 50MP Sony IMX890 main sensor, a 32MP telephoto lens, and a 13MP ultrawide snapper.
The ROG Phone 8 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The vanilla variants come up with up to 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. Its Pro sibling, on the other hand, has up to 24GB RAM and up to 1TB storage.
The vanilla also has a 5000mAh battery, while the Pro variant has a larger 5500mAh battery. The devices also support 65W fast charging, have an IP68 rating, 15W Qi wireless charging, and some AI features.
Among the AI features is an “AI Grabber” that is designed to streamline the process of searching for gaming walkthroughs by copying in-game text. There are also AI-driven features like enhanced results through the phone launcher, Gallery, and Settings apps as well as an AI Wallpaper which is in development.
Moreover, the new AeroActive Cooler X is now 29% smaller and 10% lighter with a larger contact area.
