Meizu announced recently that it is “all in on AI” and will cease manufacturing Android smartphones.
Meizu Shift to AI
In the video that the company posted, it will now focus on AI and end work on “traditional smartphone projects”. It didn’t specify though exactly what the shift will entail but the company did reference projects like the Humane AI Pin and the Rabbit R1, which could hint at alternate AI-powered devices.
The company also details that the team that used to handle its Android UI, FlymeOS will transition to work on new AI terminal devices that will use a large language model (LLM).
In China, support for its current smartphones will continue and offline stores will still be open. It is uncertain though if support will also continue internationally.
The company has been in business for over a decade, mostly focusing in China but has also tried its hand at offering its devices in other markets as well.
