Sony has introduced the groundbreaking new Alpha 9 III camera featuring the world’s first full-frame global shutter image sensor, enabling distortion-free burst shooting at speeds up to 120 frames per second with no blackout.
The Sony Alpha 9 III is equipped with a newly developed 24.6-megapixel global shutter full frame stacked CMOS sensor with built-in memory and Sony’s latest BIONZ XR image processing engine. This innovative sensor, when combined with AI-powered autofocus allows for continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at approximately 120 fps with no viewfinder blackout.
The global shutter eliminates rolling shutter distortion typically seen when capturing fast moving subjects or panning during bursts. It achieves astonishing shutter speeds up to 1/80,000 second (and 1/16,000 second in continuous drive). When paired with a compatible Sony flash like the HVL-F60RM2, the Alpha 9 III uniquely enables flash sync at any shutter speed up to 1/80,000 second.
Sony Alpha 9 III is no slouch when it comes to video either – it’s the first Alpha series camera that can record 4K 120p video at the full width of the sensor. It can also capture oversampled 6K for high resolution 4K 60p footage. On the other hand, the S-Cinetone color science borrowed from Sony’s VENICE cinema camera renders beautiful, naturalistic skin tones in-camera.
Sony engineers also developed the body with professional use cases in mind. The redesigned grip provides good handling even with large lenses, improved buttons facilitate access to oft-used settings, and the 4-axis touchscreen LCD allows intuitive operation. Dual UHS-I/II SD/CFexpress Type A card slots and 5GHz wireless transfer help for efficient post-capture workflows.
