Qualcomm has just introduced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset which is a toned-down variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and designed for more affordable high-end devices.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (also dubbed the SM8635) is built on the TSMC 4nm process and shares many features including on-device AI and Generative AI processing as its flagship counterpart. Other shared features include advanced camera processing, advanced connectivity, and lossless audio features.

Moreover, it supports more than 30 LLMs (Large Language Models) and LVMs (Large Vision Models) with up to 10 billion parameters.

As far as memory and storage go, the new chipset supports up to UFS 4.0 storage and up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM at (4200MHz).

What are the CPU features of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3?

The new chipset has one less high-performance core and downclocked CPUs compared to the 8 Gen 3. The core setup of the new chipset is as follows:

  • 1x Cortex-X4 Prime core at 3GHz
  • 4x Cortex-A720 high-performance core at up to 2.8GHz
  • 3x Cortex-A520 efficiency core at 2GHz

What is the GPU of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3?

The chipset also has a downgraded GPU from the Adreno 750 of its flagship counterpart to what is believed to be the Adreno 735. The GPU has real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing but doesn’t have global illumination effects.

  • Adreno Frame Motion Engine (frame rate interpolation)
  • 10-bit HDR gaming

  • Support for 4K 60Hz or QHD+ 144Hz displays
  • Support for variable refresh rate
  • Support for Dolby Vision, HDR 10, HDR10+, and HLG

What are the connections that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 supports?

It has a fully integrated Snapdragon X75 5G modem and supports up to 5Gbps download speeds and up to 3.5Gbps upload speeds.

It supports SA and NSA 5G networks via sub-6GHz and mmWave band. Moreover, it supports 8 CA (Carrier Aggregation) and 5G+5G Dual-SIM Dual-Active SIM.

The new chipset also has the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 system and features triple-frequency GNSS, Wi-Fi7 with 8×8 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 (via USB Type-C).
