Last April 23, I had the privilege of participating in the HONOR Magic Tour, an event organized by HONOR that showcased the brand’s cutting-edge innovations in mobile photography and sustainable practices. The tour provided an exclusive glimpse into HONOR’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology while prioritizing innovation, environmental responsibility and bringing the best features to consumers.
Unveiling the HONOR NextGen Image Lab
Our first stop was the HONOR NextGen Image Lab, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing mobile photography. Here, we witnessed firsthand the groundbreaking technologies that power HONOR’s flagship devices, such as the PORSCHE DESIGN HONOR Magic6 RSR.
One of the standout features of this smartphone is its 1200-point LiDAR Matrix Auto Focus System, which ensures unparalleled focus accuracy. Complementing this advanced system is the All-scenarios Automated Comprehensive Photographic Testing System, a self-developed testing equipment that optimizes the HONOR Image Engine across various predicted scenarios. This system simulates real-world environments, including varying brightness levels, color temperatures, and camera movements, ensuring that the photography experience is tailored to the user’s needs.
What truly sets the HONOR NextGen Image Lab apart is its commitment to replicating authentic scenarios. Within the lab, we saw genuine coffee shops, stores, and clubs, allowing HONOR to test its technologies in settings that mimic everyday life. This approach underscores the brand’s belief that data alone is insufficient; it is the combination of simulated tests conducted under real-world conditions that produces the desired results.
Exploring HONOR’s Global Headquarters and Sustainable Initiatives
Our next stop was the HONOR Global Headquarters Showroom, where we had the opportunity to witness the brand’s extensive product lineup, ranging from smartphones to Internet of Things (IoT) devices. With over 13,000 employees, including more than 60% dedicated to research and development, and seven research centers worldwide, HONOR’s commitment to innovation is evident. We also got to see products like Honor V Purse, Honor 100 (which we still do not know if Honor PH is bringing to the Philippines), Honor Magic V2, and the upcoming Honor Magic6 Pro.
However, what truly impressed me was the brand’s dedication to sustainability. HONOR has already reduced the use of hazardous substances and materials by an impressive 3,861 tons and recycled more than 1,785 tons of e-waste. Furthermore, the company is on track to reduce its carbon emissions by 88%, achieve 100% use of renewable energy, and reach carbon-neutral operations by 2045, with a 36% reduction in carbon emissions targeted by 2035.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to engage with HONOR’s top managers, who shared their insights on the future of technology. Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) were among the areas they expressed keen interest in exploring further.
Experiencing the Artistry of Fencing with the HONOR Magic6 Pro
The highlight of our tour – especially for me – was the fencing experience, where we had the chance to witness the HONOR Magic6 Pro’s AI Motion Technology in action. After learning about the rich history and techniques of fencing from professional trainers, we took to the piste (fencing strip) to put our new skills to the test.
Capturing the fast-paced movements of fencing has traditionally been a challenge for photographers, as the combination of low light conditions and rapid subject motion often results in blurred and chaotic shots. However, the HONOR Magic6 Pro’s advanced camera system, featuring the Motion Sensing Capture 2.0 and an AI algorithm for motion detection, proved more than capable of capturing every intricate movement with stunning clarity.
As I whipped the foil (that’s the fencing sword for noobs like me), the HONOR Magic6 Pro effortlessly tracked my movements, automatically capturing multiple frames and allowing me to select the perfect shot. A few of my media friends took photos and videos of me while getting prepared and while fencing. The experience was truly remarkable, showcasing the power of HONOR’s innovative technologies in bringing the artistry of fencing to life.
What a First Day!
The HONOR Magic Tour was an eye-opening experience that highlighted the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile photography while prioritizing sustainability and innovation. From the cutting-edge technologies showcased in the HONOR NextGen Image Lab to the brand’s ambitious environmental goals, HONOR is paving the way for a future where innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
As I reflect on the tour, I am left with an appreciation for the artistry of fencing and the remarkable capabilities of the HONOR Magic6 Pro in capturing its fast-paced movements. This experience has tightened my belief that HONOR is at the forefront of mobile photography, delivering exceptional results while prioritizing sustainable practices that benefit both consumers and the planet.
