Nothing has just introduced its newest audio offerings with the Nothing Ear and Ear (a). These are the first members of the refreshed Ear series.

Nothing Ear

The new Ear is the successor to the Ear (2) and this is apparent in its similar design albeit with new upgrades in the hardware.

The successor brings with it a new ceramic 11mm dynamic driver compared to the previous Graphene + PU driver of the Ear (2). The new drivers are said to deliver 110% more movement compared to the Ear (2).

The company also improved the active noise cancellation on the new Ear which now goes up to 45 dB from 40 dB. The battery was also improved to offer up to 8.5 hours without ANC and up to 40.5 hours with the case.

The Ear also supports wireless charging of up to 2.5W and fast charging that is said to offer 10 hours with a 10-minute charge.

The new earbuds now also support LDAC in addition to the Hi-Res Audio certification, AAC & SBC, and LHDC 5.0 that the Ear (2) featured. Other features include:

  • ChatGPT integration
  • Advanced Equaliser via the Nothing X app
  • Low Lag mode
  • Clear Voicve Technology
  • Pinch controls

Nothing Ear (a)

The Ear (a), on the other hand, is a new form factor for the Ear series and offers a rectangular case. It carries over much of the features of the Ear and Ear (2). This includes a Hi-Res Audio certification, AAC & SBC, and LDAC codec support, dual connection, custom equalizer, and up to 45dB ANC.

The new Ear member also offers the biggest battery with up to 9.5 hours of playback without ANC and up to 42.5 hours with the case without ANC. It also shares the fast charging of the Ear but the (a) device doesn’t offer wireless charging.

The dynamic driver has also been switched to a PMI+TPU material compared to the Ceramic of the Ear. Moreover, the Ear (a) comes with the same IP54 rating the earbuds but the case has been lowered to an IPX2 rating rather than the IP55 of its stronger siblings.
