HONOR Magic6 Pro – Truly Magical
The Honor Magic6 Pro is a true powerhouse of a smartphone, packed with cutting-edge features and innovations that are sure to impress even the most discerning tech enthusiasts. From its revolutionary camera system to its stunning durable display and top-notch performance, this device sets a new standard in the flagship smartphone market.
Design
This phone is a headturner. I visited one of the Samsung Stores near our area to find a case. I was holding the Magic6 Pro and the sales person immediately saw it and asked what it was.
The Honor Magic6 Pro shows elegance and sophistication with its sleek, symmetrical design inspired by luxury wearables. The cushion-shaped rear camera design is a unique touch that adds a premium aesthetic to the device.
With an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, this smartphone can withstand the occasional splash or accidental drop without compromising its sleek appearance. The device’s dimensions (162.5mm x 75.8mm x 8.9mm) and weight (225g for the PU version, 229g for the glass version) strike a perfect balance between portability and a premium feel.
Display
One of the standout features of the Honor Magic6 Pro is its stunning 6.8-inch All-range Low-power LTPO Eye Comfort Display. With a resolution of 2800×1280 pixels and support for a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, this display delivers vibrant and accurate colors that truly bring content to life.
But the Magic6 Pro’s display excellence doesn’t stop there. It also boasts a peak HDR brightness of 5000 nits – the highest I have ever seen on a smartphone – ensuring excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. The display is also Dolby Vision certified, providing an immersive viewing experience for HDR content.
One of the standout features of this display is its human-centric eye comfort innovations. The industry-leading 4320Hz PWM Dimming technology minimizes the potential risks associated with digital displays, while the Customizable Circadian Night Display and Nature Tone features work together to reduce eye strain and improve sleep quality.
The Honor Magic6 Pro is also equipped with the HONOR NanoCrystal Shield, providing ten times the drop resistance as certified by SGS’s Five Star Glass Drop Resistance Ability, ensuring exceptional durability and robustness.
Thanks to its new software, which I will touch on later, the display now also features Dynamic Capsule, which clearly reminds us of Apple’s Dynamic Island.
Performance
Under the hood, the Honor Magic6 Pro is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, delivering lightning-fast speeds and incredible efficiency.
The device is available with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, ensuring smooth performance and ample space for all your apps, games, and media files.
Using Performance Mode enabled, the phone’s performance is at par with most of the flagship devices I have tested like the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the ROG Phone 8 Pro. While the Magic6 Pro has vapor chamber installed, it lacks the necessary heat dissipation technology to keep it cool under performance duress. It is becomes too hot for comfort when shooting 4K at more than 4 minutes and playing high-end mobile games after more than 15 minutes. So, if you ever have plans of using this to play Arena Breakout, for instance, expect it to be hot to touch after a round or two. If you want to have an optimized performance without stressing its SoC, you can turn off Performance Mode. Performance impact is relatively neglibile.
Benchmark
These benchmarks were done without Performance Mode turned on via Battery settings. Note that when you get yourself a Magic6 Pro, Performance Mode is disabled at default.
Software
Running on the latest HONOR MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14, the Magic6 Pro introduces significant upgrades across various features. The MagicRing feature enables seamless cross-device connectivity among HONOR devices, enhancing the user experience.
One of the standout software features is the Magic Capsule, which opens up a wide range of new possibilities with enhanced interaction. Additionally, the AI Privacy Call 3.0 ensures enhanced user privacy by leveraging AI technology.
MagicRing, on the other hand, is a feature that allows users to maximize the ecosystem features of HONOR products. Unfortunately, you are locked out of this feature if you’re using a non-HONOR laptop or device.
Camera
The Honor Magic6 Pro truly shines when it comes to its camera capabilities. Equipped with the AI-powered Next-generation HONOR Falcon Camera System, this smartphone delivers pro-grade performance that rivals dedicated cameras.
The standout feature is the 180MP Periscope Telephoto Camera, which offers up to 100X digital zoom, allowing you to capture stunning details even from a distance. This camera excels in sportography, capturing decisive moments with exceptional clarity and fidelity.
Complementing the telephoto camera is a 50MP Ultra-wide Camera and a Super Dynamic Falcon Main Camera with an impressive HDR sensor. This combination allows you to capture breathtaking wide-angle shots and incredible detail and dynamic range in any lighting condition.
The camera system also boasts an Ultra-large Variable Aperture, enabling you to control the depth of field and achieve natural bokeh effects or sharper images that capture both the subject and background in full detail.
During my recent trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, I used the Magic6 Pro as my main camera, and the low-light performance was simply amazing. Even in dimly lit areas, the camera managed to capture vivid colors and intricate details, truly bringing the magic of Disneyland to life.
Audio
The Honor Magic6 Pro delivers an immersive audio experience with its stereo system featuring dual speakers. Powered by DTS:X Ultra technology, this smartphone provides rich, detailed sound that enhances your multimedia experience, whether you’re watching movies, listening to music, or playing games.
Battery
Another standout feature of the Honor Magic6 Pro is its advanced battery technology. Equipped with a massive 5,600mAh Second-generation Silicon-carbon Battery derived from the electric vehicle industry, this smartphone ensures extended usage, even in low-temperature environments.
The Magic6 Pro also supports 80W Wired SuperCharge and 66W Wireless SuperCharge, allowing you to quickly power up your device and stay on the go.
Price
The Honor Magic6 Pro is currently available for pre-order in the Philippines for PhP59,999. If you purchase one between May 9 and May 17, you’ll receive a free Harman Karon Luna worth PhP9,499 and Honor choice X3 Earbuds worth PhP2,200, totaling PhP11,699 worth of freebies.
Our Verdict
The Honor Magic6 Pro is a true game-changer in the smartphone industry, combining cutting-edge camera technology, powerful performance, innovative display features, versatile connectivity, and advanced battery solutions into one sleek and premium package.
Whether you’re a photography enthusiast, a power user, or someone who simply appreciates great design and innovation, the Magic6 Pro is a device that will surely impress you.
While it may not have as many AI features as the Galaxy or Pixel series, and the color options are limited to Black and Epi Green, the Magic6 Pro more than makes up for these minor drawbacks with its exceptional camera capabilities, great battery life, competitive pricing, and the availability of the Google Play Store out of the box.
The Honor Magic6 Pro is a fantastic flagship smartphone that deserves serious consideration from anyone in the market for a top-of-the-line device.
