Maxicare Healthcare Corporation has sent a notification to its members about a potential data breach that may have compromised their personal and medical information.

The breach occurred when an unauthorized party gained access to the systems of Lab@Home, a third-party laboratory service provider used by Maxicare. A screenshot of the email was posted by Deep Web Konek, a cybersecurity enthusiast group.

According to the blog post, the attack was carried out by “OPCODE-90”, and that the stolen information, is now allegedly being sold, with over 1,000 major companies affected.

The security incident was detected on June 13, 2024, after unauthorized access to Lab@Home’s information systems was discovered. Lab@Home operates a separate database not integrated with Maxicare’s internal systems. The extent of the breach and the specific information exposed is still under investigation.

Maxicare assured members that no immediate action is required on their part. However, the company is working to minimize further risk and will provide updates as more details become available. Maxicare has also notified the National Privacy Commission about the incident.

Maxicare is encouraging members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving their personal information. The company has committed to enhancing its cybersecurity measures in the wake of this breach.
