The increasing number of monthly subscription streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ has led to increased spending monitoring.
However, this competition and financial pressures have resulted in some platforms losing subscribers, with Netflix being the most affected, despite its decade-long growth, as it has struggled to halt the decline in its user base.
Netflix ad-supported option?
The streaming platform is launching a free, ad-supported package to attract users who have lost interest due to rising subscription fees, a move that is not universally available. The platform aims to curb account sharing.
The platform plans to offer its ad-supported free package to users in Asia and Europe instead of the U.S., a move that follows previous successful trials. Netflix’s “Standard with Ads” plan, launched in July 2023, was removed from the cheapest ad-free plan because it received negative feedback.
So, will this be the solution that will improve subscriber numbers for the platform? Will it improve the quality of content? For now, we can only wait if this new tier will solve the streaming platform’s dilemma.
