Wear OS 5 Developer Preview reveals features for future smartwatches like the Google Pixel Watch 3, set to be announced in August.

Wear OS 5 Bringing UWB and Bluetooth LE Audio functionality to wearables soon?

The UWB (ultra-wideband) and Bluetooth LE Audio (BT LE Audio) functionality are two of the most notable features that may come with Wear OS 5.

Reports suggest that UWB connectivity is meant for secure phone and watch unlocking and accurate location tracking, provided the phone connected supports UWB.

On the other hand, the Pixel Watch 3, and other upcoming wearables, may introduce BT LE, a Bluetooth protocol designed for IoT devices that drains the battery much less. However, BT LE by itself is not suitable for carrying audio data, making it a rare feature on smartwatches and used only to connect with your phone.

However, BT LE Audio is a protocol that supports simultaneous music streaming on multiple devices, significantly benefiting users of smartwatches by preserving battery life.
