ASUS Republic of Gamers has been relatively new in the TWS market with only the ROG Cetra being the sole candidate released since 2022. The ROG Cetra Pro was announced in 2023 but was later scrapped. Fast forward to year 2024 and we have the ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova TWS earbuds.

ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova – A Closer Look

The ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova sports a similar packaging style to its predecessor. The Bluetooth and 2.4GHz functionality are highlighted by being larger on the front packaging compared to the rest of the listed features. On the back, you could see a short description of each feature of the Cetra TWS SpeedNova.

Not much has changed when it comes to the packaging contents of the ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova. The packaging contains three sets of ear tips (one is already installed), a type-c cable for charging, the USB Type-C dongle for 2.4 Ghz, and one USB C to A adapter.

The charging case feels bigger and wider compared to the regular ROG Cetra. This is probably due to the extra battery to compensate for the extra power draw of the ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova earbud’s RGB lighting.

ASUS set things right with the ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova as it now has proper RGB lighting. On the previous Cetra, it only has the ROG logo that lights up once you open the case. On the SpeedNova variant, the ROG logos on each earbud has ASUS’ Aura RGB lighting.

While the ROG logo is smaller compared to the previous Cetra, the lighting makes it stand out especially when worn.

The ROG text on the lower side of the earbud now has a new glass-like design for two-tone style look. The Eartips on the new ROG Cetra TWS Speednova are in a gray colorway as opposed to the black ones found on the predecessor. Moreover, these eartips are more oval shape compared to the rounder ones on the regular Cetra.

The main highlight of the ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova is its 2.4Ghz capability. The included dongle is arguably a bulky one considering it’s a Type-C dongle as well as the previous dongles we’ve seen on ASUS Hyperspeed and other wireless devices.

Coming from the first-generation ROG Cetra TWS Earbuds, not much has improved over the ROG Cetra SpeedNova variant – at least in the aspects that I expected. While you do have a seemingly larger battery life with the tweaked case, it’s gimped by the RGB implementation on the earbuds itself. Despite having Type-C connectivity, its range is arguably worse or the same as Bluetooth. That said, the ROG Cetra TWS SpeedNova does live up to its SpeedNova moniker. ASUS absolutely nailed its 2.4GHz RF in terms of speed. Using the ROG Cetra SpeedNova is just like using a full wireless headset.
