Google‘s Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a remarkable achievement for the company, demonstrating its understanding of foldable technology.

At first glance, the phone’s design is impressive but how did it do on one of the internet’s favorite durability testers Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel?

Pixel 9 Pro Fold Durability Test

Zack from JerryRigEverything tested the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to its limits, revealing that the device initially impresses with its aesthetics and durability.

For starters, the outer screen can withstand scratches up to a rating of 6 while the inner display didn’t do much to resist scratches succumbing to fingernail scratches easily. So you might need to manage your expectations when purchasing these kinds of devices.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s aluminum surfaces are easily damaged by sand and dirt, with no dust resistance. Google doesn’t claim dust resistance though. The interior screen succumbs to lighter flame heat but doesn’t melt, while the front display performed better with less permanent damage.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold proves to be a fairly sturdy device that can withstand folding and bending. When opened, the device can bend beyond its tolerances. However, a critical weak point was exposed when the phone’s antenna break can be seen through the bend, indicating a potential area for improvement in future foldable designs by Google.

Overall, the foldable has managed to withstand the bend test enough to pass and luckily, the phone is easily repairable. The 9 Pro Fold’s durability makes it a solid choice for daily drivers, despite the possibility of failure.
