Huawei has just unveiled HarmonyOS NEXT, its latest operating system that brings a new user interface and a better performance.

The company’s latest HarmonyOS has a new design with customizable lock and home screens, a redesigned control center, and faster launch speeds. This OS has a self-developed microkernel based on the OpenHarmony open-source framework.

HarmonyOS NEXT launched customization

NEXT emphasizes deep AI integration, interconnectivity, a seamless experience, and a focus on data and privacy settings.

It has a new rendering engine that is said to offer realistic color and motion to the screen and a new 3D interaction with customizable Emojis. Moreover, HarmonyOS has unified visuals for native apps like HUAWEI Music and HUAWEI Video.

HarmonyOS NEXT launched Xiaoyi AI Assistant

HarmonyOS NEXT also has the Xiaoyi Ai Assistant that can be activated through voice or the navigation bar and offers:

  • Contextual Screen Recognition
  • Document Analysis
  • Smart Reminders
  • Photo Retouching
  • Real-time Transcription

There are also connectivity features that include HUAWEI Share 2.0 which allows the transfer of a 1.2GB fil in just 8 seconds, Cross-device Collaboration, and Voice Repair Function for clearer voice calls, to name a few.

HarmonyOS NEXT launched devices

The company introduces the Star Shield security architecture for this version of its operating system. This allows you to control data access for apps and track which apps have access and for how long. NEXT also restricts unnecessary permissions to protect privacy further.

The new OS is said to be 20% more power efficient which delivers up to 56 minutes of battery life and runs with a boosted 1.5GB RAM usage.

HarmonyOS NEXT launched list

The first public beta of HarmonyOS NEXT began its rollout earlier this month in China. This includes devices like the HUAWEI Mate 60 series, HUAWEI Mate X5, HUAWEI Pura 70 series, and HUAWEI Pocket 2 as well as the HUAWEI Watch Ultimate.
