Tecno Phantom V Flip2 5G Review
Premium features and midrange price do not usually go together when talking about clamshell foldable smartphones. This stigma has further changed and shifted with the introduction of the 2nd iteration of the Phantom V Flip series by Tecno.
With its impressive specifications and innovative design, it sets a new standard for affordability in the foldable segment. This review will geti into various aspects of the device, including its build, display, hardware, software, camera, audio, battery life, and overall performance.
Before I get into the meat of our review, allow me to give a quick discussion about unboxing experience. Contents are pretty straightforward and typical for a retail unit – Phantom V Flip2 5G, 70W charger, basic hard plastic case with adhesives, an NFC card, cable and documentations.
Build and Design
The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 5G boasts a sleek and modern design that is both eye-catching and total performer. It features a pocket-sized foldable design that measures just 7.64mm when unfolded and weighs 196g, making it lightweight and easy to carry. The device comes in two elegant color options: Moondust Grey and Travertine Green. What we received is the latter variant. The build quality is enhanced by a double helix star track waterdrop hinge, which ensures durability and smooth operation.
The hinge mechanism is particularly noteworthy for its sturdiness; it is designed to withstand 100,000 folds at low temperatures, showcasing Tecno’s commitment to quality engineering. This robust construction allows users to confidently use the foldable feature without worrying about wear and tear over time.
Display
The Phantom V Flip2 5G features a vibrant 6.9-inch FHD+ AMOLED main screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing smooth scrolling and an immersive viewing experience. The display supports a full range of colors with a 100% P3 wide color gamut and 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for reduced eye strain. The cover screen is equally impressive, featuring a 3.64-inch AMOLED display with a unique “Thru Pool” design that offers seamless interaction without needing to unfold the phone.
Both screens deliver sharp visuals with accurate colors, making them ideal for media consumption and gaming. The main screen’s ultra-thin flexible glass further enhances the visual experience by minimizing creases and ensuring durability.

Hardware
Under the hood, the Phantom V Flip2 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This combination provides ample power for multitasking and running demanding applications smoothly. The device supports dual SIM cards and offers connectivity options like WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 for fast and reliable connections.
One thing I’d like to point out is that the phone especially around the camera area tends to get a little hot to handle without the included case. Temps during my benchmarking sessions and while playing Diablo Immortal and (the recently launched) Infinity Nikki hover around 34C- 36C.
Benchmark
In terms of performance benchmarks, the Phantom V Flip2 achieves impressive scores: AnTuTu – 730668; Wild Life Extreme – 1120; Geekbench Single Core – 1001; Geekbench Multi Core – 2005; PC Mark Work 3.0 – 14397. These results indicate that the phone can handle intensive tasks with ease, positioning it well against competitors in its class.
Software and Other Features
The Phantom V Flip2 runs on Android 14 with Tecno’s HiOS overlay, offering a user-friendly interface with various customization options. While initially skeptical about the cover screen’s user interface design, I found it has significant potential if further optimized by Tecno. It currently supports apps like TikTok, YouTube, and Gmail on its cover screen, although native support for more apps would enhance its utility.
On its camera app, one standout feature is the ability to trigger video capture using your fingerprint, adding convenience to capturing spontaneous moments. Additionally, the camera app has matured significantly, providing users with a plethora of features for both photography and videography.
I would also like to commend Tecno for being able to integrate AI features on the Flip2 5G. This means that features like proofreading and AI rewriting are already present on the software, which can be accessed anywhere. There is also image generation build on the Notes app, which lets you convert scribbles to work of art. This feature is normally found on more expensive devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip6 5G.
Camera
Now, speaking of camera of Phantom V Flip2, I find it really feature-packed, featuring dual 50MP rear cameras (main and ultra-wide) along with a 32MP front camera. The rear cameras deliver excellent photo quality with vibrant colors and good dynamic range. In low-light conditions, while performance is generally acceptable, images can exhibit some noise.
Video capabilities include recording up to 4K at 30fps; however, using AI Focus limits video resolution to 1080p at 30fps. The FreeCam system allows for creative shooting angles between 30°-150°, enabling users to capture unique perspectives without needing additional equipment like tripods.
Audio
The audio experience on the Phantom V Flip2 is enhanced by Dolby Atmos support and dual stereo speakers. This setup provides clear dialogue and immersive sound quality whether you’re watching videos or playing games. The device intelligently adjusts sound settings based on content type for optimal audio performance.
Battery
Equipped with a substantial 4720mAh battery, the Phantom V Flip2 ensures all-day usage even under heavy workloads like gaming or multimedia playback. The inclusion of 70W Ultra Charge technology means you can quickly recharge your device—50% in just 15 minutes and fully charged in under an hour—minimizing downtime between uses.
In my experience, the new Phantom V Flip2 lasts for about 15 hours and 25 minutes in my standard usage tasks as a secondary phone with social media browsing, light gaming, and video consumption; and 10 hours and 53 minutes using the same usage tasks but as a primary device.
Audio quality is premium as well. Most frequencies are hit with balanced overall response. This is a good indication of how Tecno put emphasis on bringing quality features on this device rather than just putting mindless and cheap parts.
Verdict
Overall, the Tecno Phantom V Flip2 5G is impressive with its combination of premium features at an attractive price point. Its durable build quality coupled with vibrant displays makes it an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable foldable smartphone without breaking the bank. While there are areas for improvement—such as expanding app support on the cover screen—the device delivers solid performance across all fronts.
For consumers looking for innovation in design paired with powerful hardware capabilities at an affordable price tag compared to other high-end foldables like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series or OPPO’s Find N3 Flip models—the Tecno Phantom V Flip2 stands out as an appealing option worth considering.
The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 5G is now available in the Philippines for PhP34,999. During the pre-order period until December 8, the foldable device’s price can go as low as PhP27,999 via TikTok and PhP28,999 via Shopee.
