OPPO Philipines has just unveiled the latest members of the Reno series – the OPPO Reno13 Series 5G. This series is comprised of the Reno13 5G, Reno13 F 5G, and Reno13 Pro 5G.
The new series comes with upgrades to hardware and software, but more impressively a mix of both.
The entire series boasts an IP69 rating that allows you to capture moments even in fresh water of up to 2 meters deep for up to 30 minutes. This is backed with an Underwater Photography mode which includes a tap to drainage function that seemingly flushes out the water after you’re done shooting.

However, this also means a higher price point for the series, including the Reno13 F 5G up to the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G.
We were given the chance to experience the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G and even got the opportunity to go to Siquijor to explore the device in full. Yes, including being able to use the Underwater Photography mode.
But the question lies, is the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G worth the hefty PHP 43,999 price tag? Well, after using the device for a little over two weeks, here’s my experience with the premium device.

OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G – Design and Build
The OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G comes in two colors, Graphite Grey and Plume Purple. Plume Purple is the hero color of the entire series as it showcases the Butterfly Shadow Effect in all its glory.

However, we were given the sleek and very classy Graphite Grey colorway. It isn’t quite as flashy as the Plume Purple colorway, but the colorway showcases a matte finish and comes with a black silicone case as well. (Based on what I saw, the Plume Purple option comes with a clear case with corrugation on the inside)

I enjoy color as much as the next person, but I enjoyed the clean finish of the Graphite Grey color. Would I pick the Plume Purple if I had the choice, sure! But I think it would be a tough choice if both were in front of me.

One thing that I found eye-catching about its design though is the finish it had on the camera module. It wasn’t made from metal or had an entirely different material but because it was made from a single sheet of glass, you can see through it on the edges of the module itself.
It brings a fresh feel to what is now the ‘normal’ camera module design.

The Reno13 Pro 5G is the largest of the series, being built around a 6.85-inch 1.5K flexible AMOLED panel. I appreciate that the device didn’t wrap the curved panel down the sides, but instead curves while sitting on top of the frame. This allows the Reno13 Pro 5G to have slim bezels.

That said though, I’ve come to dislike curved panels as it is prone to accidental touches. This is easily solved though by using the aforementioned silicone case. However, this defeats the purpose of having a curved screen.
OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G – Performance
The OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset coupled with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. The SoC isn’t quite the best out there but it’s quite a performer.
Before I get to my experience, let’s go through the benchmark results of the Reno13 Pro 5G. Here are the results of AnTuTu and PCMark for overall performance, Geekbench for CPU performance, and 3DMark for GPU performance:

When it came to day-to-day use, the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 and the 12GB RAM onboard handled tasks with ease. This includes watching videos on YouTube and Netflix, reading and watching the latest trends and memes on social media, and gaming.
I tried out four games in particular – Mobile Legends: Bang Bang for light gaming, Diablo Immortal and Honkai Star Rail for medium gaming, and Genshin Impact for heavy gaming.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, unsurprisingly, ran with like a hot knife on butter even on the highest settings possible. Diablo Immortal and Honkai Star Rail were slightly more challenging, especially at max settings and longer play sessions. The device warmed up a bit but not to uncomfortable levels.
Last was what I still consider to be one of the bosses of mobile gaming, Genshin Impact. I was able to crank it up to the Highest settings and while there were hiccups here and there, it was quite playable. Although, I wouldn’t recommend you play on the Highest setting for hours on end. The Reno13 Pro 5G, by default, recommends you run Genshin Impact on Medium but I’d probably run it on High for a good balance between performance and visuals.
Overall, it’s a very reliable daily driver with its 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display and even its midrange chipset.
OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G – Camera

The OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G boasts a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens, and an 8 MP ultrawide snapper.

As the premium device in the series, having two 50MP cameras around the back just makes sense and I’m grateful for this setup. You get roughly the same reliability with the main snapper and the telephoto lens, even at the 3.5x max optical range.

One thing I noticed though is that with Portrait mode, is that the cutout can get pretty aggressive. It also seemed to struggle with the wisps of my hair. It may not be a big deal for everyone, but it’s worth mentioning.

Being in Siquijor, we were given the opportunity to visit Cambugahay Falls to try out the Underwater Mode. If you’re adventurous and swim a lot (specifically freshwater), this definitely is quite nifty.
It allows you to take photos like these:

I found the button scheme quite challenging though. It only uses your rear camera and disables your usual controls while in this mode. To take photos, you need to press the volume up button, while volume down allows you to take video. I’ve recently switched to capturing photos in portrait from landscape, making the volume quite a stretch to press when I want to take a photo.
I wish you could customize the layout of these buttons in Underwater mode as I would’ve preferred capturing photos on the volume down button instead.
Rounding out the optics is a 50MP front snapper which can take photos roughly at par with the main rear snapper. The color and details are good enough to post directly on social media without the worry of posting sub-optimal photos.

OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G – Battery
The OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G is equipped with a large 5800mAh battery that is able to keep up with you for about half a day.
Here is the results of running the device through the PCMark battery test:

My experience with the device has it pretty close to around 11 hours. In Siquijor, we’d leave the resort pretty early in the morning and we’d be out until about 8 or 9 PM. I hardly found myself reaching in my bag for my powerbank to top it up.
However, I must mention that this is with no gaming sessions. However, I did take a ton of photos and checked social media with mobile data turned on.
If you need to top up the Reno13 Pro 5G, it supports 80W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge and comes with a charger out of the box. I tried zero-ing out the battery and testing how quick it will top up. It took less than an hour.
A 15-minute charge offered up to 34% which is enough to try and book a ride going home and have some to be able to doom scroll while in traffic.
OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G – Software

Last is software. The OPPO Reno13 series 5G runs on ColorOS 15.0 on top of Android 15. Out of the box, be prepared for bloatware. I’m still not a fan as it requires more work to set up your device but I think OPPO has introduced more features that make me forget the initial bloat.

One of my favorites was the variety of watermarks to choose from, including multiple frame options and text options with a wide variety of customization. Sure, it’s not a feature not many people like to use but I personally think it adds a bit more flair. Moreover, you can opt to remove or change the watermark after you’ve taken the photo, which is a fun feature for the indecisive.

As an OPPO AI Phone, we see familiar AI features like AI Eraser 2.0, AI Unblur, AI Writer, AI Summary, and AI Reflection Remover. I’m still in awe of how clean I can get my photos to be with AI Eraser 2.0.
Here are some samples:

In addition to the AI-features, OPPO also introduced Tap-to-Share and O+ Connect, which allow you to easily send photos and files to iPhone users. Yes, you send photos to your friends and family using iPhones.

One other thing that I like about ColorOS is the customization options that you get like the app icons and the shapes.
OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G – Verdict
What that said, where do we lie with the question I posed in the beginning? Well, that depends on you and your use case for a smartphone. To recap, the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G is priced at PHP 43,999, a pretty large leap from its predecessor which was offered at PHP 34,999.

I personally think that the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G is a worthy contender in the high mid-range market. Especially if you’re looking for AI features and a pretty well-implemented software on top of Android. Let’s not forget a camera setup that just makes sense when placed between the flagship and the true midrange.
If you’re quite an active person (especially in freshwater environments) and want a reliable device without breaking the bank that can keep up with you while also capturing moments, I think this a device you can add to the list of options.
However, if you’re looking for raw performance, I think there are other options that give you a more flagship experience.
You can pre-order the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G, and the rest of the Reno13 Series 5G, via Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and OPPO-authorized stores nationwide until February 13, 2025.
Overall, I think OPPO did enough especially on the feature front to justify a price increase for the OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G.
On paper, you really don’t get to see the entire picture of what’s changed when you compare it to its predecessor. I suggest checking it out in a physical store and exploring it a bit, especially if you’re on the hunt for an upgrade for a device that’s two or more years behind.
If you want the AI feature, underwater mode, being ability to send photos and files to iPhone with Android, and are willing to forgo the telephoto snapper, maybe the OPPO Reno13 5G is for you. You get all that for drastically less.
- Long-lasting battery
- 80W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge
- AI features are well-implemented
- Can send photos and files to iPhone
- Underwater Photo mode
- Drastic price increase from predecessor
- Some features aren't for everyone
- On-paper specs are incremental upgrade

He would then transition to focus more on the world of tech which has also began his journey into learning more about this world. That said though, he still has the mentality of "as long as it works" for his personal gadgets.
