The ASUS ROG Pelta Gaming Headset is the brand’s newest contender at the mid-range segment. While it’s still unreleased in the Philippines, it aims to deliver excellent versatility with tri-mode connectivity, excellent comfort even for long gaming sessions, and good sound quality that should attract the attention of those who want to move up from an entry-level model.
What’s in the Box
It’s pretty standard packaging. You get the headset, a USB-C to USB-A cable, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, the Omni-Receiver, and some documentation.
Design and Build Quality
Despite its predominantly plastic construction, the ROG Pelta maintains a premium aesthetic with a practical matte finish that effectively minimizes fingerprints and smudges on the earcups. There are also illuminated ROG logos on the earcups for a subtle gaming aesthetic without being overly flashy.
The controls are all on the left earcup and includes a dedicated volume dial, connectivity mode switch, mic mute button, and a dedicated button for media playback. The microphone includes helpful visual feedback through a red LED indicator, complemented by voice prompts for various functions. It’s also detachable, so you could take this out for outdoor use if you really wanted to.
Connectivity
The ROG Pelta offers tri-mode connectivity with the brand’s SpeedNova technology. Users can connect via:
- 2.4GHz wireless using the included USB-C dongle (with USB-A adapter)
- Bluetooth wireless connection
- Wired connection using the included braided cable
The wireless performance is particularly impressive, maintaining stable audio quality at distances up to 10 meters, even through walls. One limitation is the inability to simultaneously connect to both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth sources.
Comfort and Ergonomics
The headset’s comfort-focused design features breathable mesh fabric ear cushions that provide excellent comfort during extended gaming sessions. The balanced clamping force also strikes an ideal compromise between stability and comfort.
While the earcups can swivel and rotate partially, the absence of a height adjustment mechanism for the earcups might affect the fit for some users.
Performance and Microphone
The ROG Pelta uses 50mm Titanium-Plated Diaphragm Drivers and delivers a well-balanced audio profile out of the box. The bass response is present but measured, providing adequate impact without overwhelming the mix. Vocal reproduction is clear, though occasionally prominent in the mix. The treble response adds airiness to the sound while avoiding harshness. For gaming applications, the headset provides accurate directional audio cues, particularly beneficial in FPS games.
While the headset doesn’t feature active noise cancellation, its passive noise isolation capabilities effectively reduce environmental distractions, including traffic noise.
The microphone stands out as one of the better offerings in its class, delivering balanced audio capture with good low-end presence, clear vocal reproduction, and natural-sounding treble response
Software Integration
The Armoury Crate software enhances the ROG Pelta’s functionality by providing:
- Customizable EQ settings
- Audio enhancement features including bass boost and voice clarity
- RGB lighting controls and effects
- Battery monitoring and low-battery alerts
Battery Performance
Battery life is a significant strength of the ROG Pelta, achieving approximately 42 hours of use with RGB lighting enabled and set to color cycling. Users can expect even longer battery life with RGB lighting disabled, making it a reliable choice for extended gaming sessions.
Verdict
The ROG Pelta does impress with its balanced sound signature, exceptional comfort, versatile connectivity options, and outstanding battery life. The microphone quality and software integration also add significant value to the overall package.
The lack of height adjustment for the earcups and the inability to connect simultaneously to 2.4GHz and Bluetooth may put-off some potential buyers, but personally, these aren’t issues for me.
For its PHP 6,000+ price tag (depending on where you’ll get it), the feature set and performance position the ROG Pelta as a competitive choice for those looking for a mid-range gaming headset.
The combination of versatile connectivity options, comfortable design, and impressive battery life makes it a worthy consideration for gamers seeking a reliable wireless headset
