AirAsia has announced significant changes to its power bank policy, with new restrictions set to take effect on April 1, 2025. The enhanced regulations will prohibit the usage and charging of power banks during all flights as part of a commitment to aviation safety standards and reducing battery-related incident risks.
AirAsia’s New Policy on Power Banks
Under the new policy, passengers will only be permitted to carry power banks with capacities not exceeding 100 watt-hours (Wh) or 20,000 milliampere-hours (mAh). Power banks with capacities between 100Wh and 160Wh will require explicit airline approval at the check-in counter.
The airline has outlined several important safety requirements regarding power bank handling.
- Passengers must store their power banks in seat pockets or under seats, as placement in overhead compartments will be prohibited.
- The use of power banks and charging of electronic devices will be forbidden throughout the duration of flights.
- Power banks must be carried in cabin baggage and are strictly prohibited in checked luggage.
To ensure passenger awareness and compliance, AirAsia will also implement comprehensive communication measures including safety reminders at check-in counters, along with reinforcement through boarding and in-flight announcements.
The airline has emphasized that these regulations are aligned with industry best practices and demonstrate its ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards for passengers, crew members, and aircraft. AirAsia has expressed appreciation for passenger cooperation with these new requirements, which aim to create a safer and more comfortable travel experience for all.
Travelers are advised to verify their power banks comply with the airline’s specifications before arriving at the airport to ensure a smooth check-in and boarding process when the policy takes effect.
